Southern Spars and North Sails Collaboration

North Sails and Southern Spars delivered the first of a kind collaboration out of its manufacturing base in Sri Lanka. The 6.6m CARBON FURLING BOOM with manual drive was delivered to the client, Windcraft Australia, with the sail rolled around the mandrel – ready to install on the mast and hoist the sail. It shows the unique ability for the North Group to deliver a complete solution through collaborative design, manufacturing and logistics. It also embodies Southern Spars’ concept of “Push Play” which aims to deliver turn-key performance products out of the box.

Michael Coxon, head of North Sails Australia, was very pleased with how the collaboration worked out.

“When one of our bigger clients in Sydney chose one of the new Southern Furl booms to be fitted on their latest boat it was great news for both ourselves and Southern,” says Coxon.  “Working with Design Services, we were able to deliver the finished sail to the Southern facility in Sri Lanka, where it was fitted into the boom for shipping. As soon as the sail and boom combination arrived on the boat the sail was hoisted. All in all it was a great success and hopefully another factor that helps more clients see how powerful the Southern / North combination can be.”
