49er Class

Making its first Olympic appearance at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, the 49er is a newer one design class. Designed by Julian Bethwaite in 1995, it one of the fastest growing Olympic classes with over 1000 yachts currently sailing in 40 countries. The 49er is known for its high-performance, adrenaline pumping speeds and close racing.

Carrying a new carbon mast, a mass of sail, twin trapezes, wings and a huge asymmetric spinnaker, the boat is very much for the expert sailor, providing fast, exciting sailing for athletes and spectators alike. The 49er is an open class, with competitive sailing with the competitive crews in a weight range from 155kgs to 165kgs (combined crew weight).
