Andrew Silveira in memorium

silviera

Fondly known as “Dad” by many younger staff who worked under him, Andrew Silveira began working at Southern Spars in 2001.

He was a skilled craftsman and began working for Southern Spars in our Halsey Street premises, building the masts for Emirates Team New Zealand’s America’s Cup challenge in 2003. Andrew was instrumental in setting up the “Boom Factory” in the Halsey Street site.

Always keen for a joke and free with a smile, he was very well respected within the company and progressed to being the Booms and Spreaders Department Leader.

Outside of work, Andrew was a car enthusiast and very proud of his Corvette. Of a Saturday morning, he was a regular of the Mission Bay cafes, often seen sitting outside enjoying a coffee and the paper.

Andrew was 52 and succumbed peacefully to a sudden illness on July 10th.

His passing is a heavy loss to Southern Spars and to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
