Southern Spars has fitted masts for many J Class yachts, both newly built and bringing new life to older yachts. These classic yachts were used in competition for the Americas Cup from the 1930s until the mid-1950s and have recently experienced a revival, being raced once again by many of the worlds top professional sailors at events around the world.
The J Class yachts have benefited from the quantum leap made in sail and mast technology over the last 70 years and are now high-performing race yachts, many of which feature comfortable cruising interiors.
As displacement yachts with massive sail plans, they remain a handful, even for some of the most experienced sailors on earth, and they undergo torture from extraordinary loads passing through the mast and rigging, sails, ropes and hull.
